The MIoD recognises the significance of Governance on a regional and international level and hence builds and maintains strong links with important networks worldwide.

 

African Corporate Governance Network ( ACGN)

The setting up of African Corporate Governance Network was spearheaded by the Mauritius Institute of Directors and the Institute of Directors Southern Africa with the support of the NEPAD Business Foundation (NBF). It was officially launched in Mauritius on October 16, 2013 in the presence of the founding members namely Institute of Directors from the following African countries: Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Morocco, Southern Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe as well as other collaborators including FITC Nigeria, World Bank, IFC, Standard Bank, ACCA and Ernst & Young. Today the ACGN also includes Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Tunisia and Senegal as members.

The ACGN was formed to develop institutional member capacity for enhancing corporate governance practices building better organizations and corporate citizens in Africa. It will provide policymakers and market participants with an important forum to exchange experiences and best practices aimed at addressing ongoing corporate governance challenges in Africa.

The objectives of the ACGN are to exchange and share knowledge, information, best practices tools and resources, demonstrate good practice within member organizations to achieve their goals, create a common platform for advocacy, initiatives and communications, expand the network, create a favourable investment climate and conduct research.

International Corporate Governance Network

The MIoD is also an affiliate of different international professional bodies for directors through its membership of the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN). The ICGN is an investor-led organisation of governance professionals, ICGN's mission is to inspire and promote effective standards of corporate governance to advance efficient markets and economies world-wide. We do this through three core activities:

Influencing policy by providing a reliable source of practical knowledge and experiences on corporate governance issues, thereby contributing to a sound regulatory framework and a mutual understanding of interests between market participants;

Connecting peers and facilitating cross-border communication among a broad constituency of market participants at international conferences and events, virtual networking and through other media; and

Informing dialogue amongst corporate governance professionals through the publication of policies and principles, exchange of knowledge and advancement of education world-wide

The ICGN incorporated as a company limited by guarantee under the law of England and Wales in January 2008 and, as such, limits the liability of members to one pound sterling.

Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI)

The Mauritius Institute of Directors is a member of the Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI). The GNDI is an international collaboration of membership organisations sharing expertise in corporate governance and professional director development. GNDI enables directors worldwide to stay abreast of leading practices as well as current and emerging governance issues. GNDI is designed to foster closer cooperation between its members, who are globally recognized for their pre-eminence in board and director development activity and collectively represent more than 100,000 individual directors.

GNDI Global Passport

The GNDI Global Passport has been launched, which will unlock access to benefits and governance resources for directors from around the world.

The Global Passport allows directors who are members of their GNDI home country member organization to access benefits from affiliated director institutes at discounted rates. Benefits include subscriptions to member-only publications, online governance resources, special pricing for events and director registry services, etc.
